What Are The Functions Of The Various Additives In Polymers?

Toughening agents

It is easy to confuse them with plasticisers, and some plasticisers can indeed be used as toughening agents such as Calcium lignosulfonate, because the principle of both is usually to change the crystallinity of the polymer. But in terms of product parameters, the two are actually different. Using the hair analogy again, plasticisers are the equivalent of water, which mainly governs the process, while tougheners are the equivalent of hair conditioner, which mainly governs the application process later on. Some plastics are so brittle that they feel like glass when they are used, and they break when they are dropped on the floor, so obviously they are not very comfortable to use. Toughening agents exist to solve this problem. For PVC plastics, plasticizers are also toughening agents, but other plastic toughening agents are varied, and some directly use rubber such as polymer as a toughening agent.

Antioxidants

BHT is the most common phenolic antioxidant and is used extremely commonly in the plastics industry, where it is almost a necessity. Plastics are organic polymers and the molecules are actually quite fragile and can be dangerous if exposed to oxygen at high temperatures.

Flame retardants

Flame retardants are not used much in the plastics industry, but they are really important. If our plastics processing industry were to produce flame retardant plastics to standard, many fire hazards would be reduced. Flame retardants work simply by stopping the rate of combustion, many are substances containing phosphorus and chlorine that quickly generate free radicals and thus stop the spread of the fire.

Colorants

This one is even simpler: the role of colouring plastics. Performance determines use, while aesthetics determines profit, so for specific companies, the latter is sometimes more of a concern. If we see a mobile phone with an unevenly coloured casing, we probably won’t buy it. As for resistance to drop, I haven’t seen anyone test the strength of the casing when buying a mobile phone anyway, even at the counter of the brand that smashes walnuts.

Reinforcing agents

Most of the time the verbal name filler also refers to reinforcing agents or tackifying agent malaysia , whose role is to increase the strength of the plastic. Strength is not the same as hardness, which is a distinction to be made. Most plastics do not require hardness during use, but with the exception of food bags where the tear is located, plastics in general have high requirements for strength. Most of the time, reinforcement also reduces the cost of the plastic, as commonly used reinforcing agents, including calcium carbonate, talc, graphite or carbon black, and silica are relatively cheap. Of course, these substances can be strengthened by their direct interaction with the polymer, they cannot be added indefinitely, and their strength will decrease if more is added. They are also generally harmless.…

How is a ship’s maintenance plan created?

The fundamental goal of any ship maintenance plan is to do maintenance and repair jobs in the shortest amount of time and at the lowest possible cost.

Every shipping firm follows a maintenance plan to ensure that the ship’s machinery operates at a certain level of efficiency and safety.

A maintenance plan is an essential part of a ship’s everyday operations and is also an important part of the ship’s maintenance system.

Several factors are considered while developing a maintenance plan, ranging from the International Safety Management Code (ISM) to the machine manufacturer’s standards.

What should the primary goals of a maintenance plan be?

As previously said, the major goal of a maintenance plan is to ensure that the job is completed in the shortest amount of time feasible, with the highest level of efficiency and at the lowest possible cost.

Various issues specified in the ISM code, as well as company policies and manufacturer recommendations, are taken into account.

Other considerations include the ship’s kind, condition, and age, among others.

What is the process for developing and implementing a maintenance plan?

The following steps are addressed in order to build a strategic strategy in order to carry out a successful maintenance plan:

  • Recognizing the issue
  • Putting the clause in place
  • Proposing a remedy
  • Solution evaluation
  • Putting the solution into action
  • Evaluation of efficacy
  • Solving

The shipping firm considers the following factors while establishing a maintenance procedure for a specific ship:

  • The manufacturer’s maintenance instructions and specs
  • Failures, flaws, damages, and corrective action are all part of the equipment’s history.
  • The ISM code includes some guidelines.
  • The ship’s age
  • Inspections by a third party
  • Effects of equipment failure on the ship’s ability to operate safely
  • Equipment and systems that are critical
  • Maintenance intervals

A methodical approach to maintenance is used, taking into account the points listed above. This is required to ensure that no details are overlooked during the maintenance procedure.

The approach for maintenance procedure includes the following steps:

  • Maintenance intervals are established.
  • Inspection methods and frequency
  • The type of examination must be specified.

The type of measuring equipment that will be used is as follows:

  • Appropriate acceptance criteria must be established.
  • Responsibility for inspection activities is delegated to adequately qualified persons.
  • Reporting obligations and processes must be clearly defined.
  • The most significant part of the maintenance plan is the maintenance interval.
  • The maintenance interval decided in the plan is based on the following factors:
  • Manufacturer’s recommendations and specifications
  • Predictive maintenance determination techniques
  • Practical experience of the engineers in operation and maintenance of ship and its machinery
  • Historical trends obtained from the results of routine inspections, and in nature and rate of failures.
  • The use of the equipment – continuous, intermittent, standby, or emergency
  • Practical and operational restrictions

Guidelines for internals specified as part of class, convention, administration and company requirements

Need for steady testing of S/B arrangement

Finally, the stages for writing down the last process for planned inspection routines are included:

  • Inspection standards
  • Appropriate measuring and testing equipment is used.
  • Equipment calibration for measuring and testing
  • Visual, vibration, pressure, temperature, electrical, load, and water tightness inspections and tests will be used.
  • A systematic and planned maintenance procedure is created, which is also a vital aspect of the ship’s planned maintenance system, taking into account the aforementioned points.

Rig preservation solutions in Malaysia checklists are frequently used for inspection purposes to verify that inspection, testing, and maintenance are carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s, shipping company, and ISM code’s rules.…
